The Appointment that changed everything

Looking back now, it’s amazing how ordinary that Thursday felt.

I walked into the beautiful new practice of Dr. Amanda Vaughn, an OB-GYN who had recently opened a private practice focused on hormone replacement therapy for women navigating menopause and perimenopause. I had been searching for someone who specialized in this area, and her practice was exactly what I had hoped to find. I was genuinely excited about the appointment.

The office itself was beautiful. As soon as I walked in, I found myself taking mental notes—and probably a few actual ones, too. I was in the middle of planning my own new Veterinary Vision Specialists location, so I couldn’t help but admire the design, the flow, and the little details that made the practice feel so welcoming.

The nurse drew blood for routine lab work, and I completed a full body composition analysis before meeting Dr. Vaughn. She was warm, knowledgeable, and wonderful to talk with. We discussed my hormone replacement therapy and how we might tailor it more specifically to what my body needed during perimenopause.

There was nothing remarkable about the visit.

In fact, that’s exactly what made it remarkable.

I felt great.

I had worked out that morning. I was active, healthy, busy, and excited about life. My veterinary practice was growing, I was making plans for the future, and aside from an occasional mild morning headache—which I never gave a second thought—I felt completely like myself.

If someone had asked me that day how I was doing, I would have answered without hesitation:

“I’m doing great.”

I walked out of that appointment expecting nothing more than a follow-up about my hormone levels.

I had no idea that the blood drawn that afternoon would uncover something that would change the course of my life forever.
